I recently did a write-up on my blog about this and thought I would share...

If you are experiencing slow page load times possibly due to banner ads, try isolating them in IFRAMEs. Works great for me. It allows my page/content to load without having to wait on any 3rd party ads...

That's actually a very good tip, but what about adsense ads? How will they pick up keywords when they're in iframes..

I haven't seen a problem with my Adsense ads from a performance perspective, so I don't put them in IFRAMEs.

For now, I just have my Tribalfusion banner ads in IFRAMEs, since they seemed to be the biggest performance problem.
