Can anyone tell me whether social bookmarking works AT ALL, never mind for linkbuilding!?

Not sure - I get the odd hit from some Swickis, but nothing to write home about.

Yes, it appears to be true. It is a bit surprising that del.icio.us has not even allowing SEs to index the content!

Outbound del.icio.us links have nofollow so are useless for link building anyway..

Lots of links to my sites from del.icio.us show up in the Google webmaster tools and yahoo's sitesearch. They just don't show up in the regular link search results. But they are definitely indexed.

They don't exactly send a lot of traffic your way either. I have never quite figured out how to use delicious for this actually? Any ideas? Without exploiting the system, obviously.

I didn't realise the links were nofollow, but in my experience, I have gotten some traffic from del.icio.us links. I guess I must have been very lucky regarding who bookmarked my pages.

I don't chase links from social bookmarking sites though.

It´s true that they have the noindex tag, but Google still indexed my bookmark page:
    hxxp://www.google.es/search?q=del.icio.us%2FAdan75

If it´s indexed it should transfer some juice, shouldn´t it?

I've ended up with quite a few deep links from blogs that I think came through del.icio.us listings. I don't get much traffic directly from del.icio.us but being mentioned in blogs is always nice as a free link :)

Plus the fact that each link is tagged with keywords should be extremely useful to search engines.

I've gotten hits just by having my site name associated with certain keywords. It shows up in google searches (ranked even higher than my own pages themselves), and they show up on the "backlinks" list on my Webmaster account.
