Good day, I am posting to ask a question I kind of know the answer to, but not really.

I know google is a good tool for checking out the competition of a keyword, but I was wondering how to determine if a keyword can be ranked for easily, as in rank 1 within 3-4 months.

How many pages of competition is considered safe to pursue?

Also, what kind of search volume for my keywords should I be looking at? My current diamond blogs keywords target about 500,000 searches a month, is this to low? The competition is around a million pages, but I feel the top rankers are beatable.

    Thank you guys, you're awesome!

Don't take it that easy, having half million search per month is competitive keyword. Even SEO experts will not gonna achieve that easy to make it for just 3 months.

Yes but you see I analyzed the top 10 results and decided they are not really competing for the keyword, they just happen to rank well for it because they cover a broader area of the niche.
