I'm about to start a site using phpizabi with an SMF bridge. I want to find someone to do simple modifications (mostly just color changes and adding header titles) to the templates for both phpizabi and SMF. Has anyone used freelancer sites, such as: scriptlance.com, getacoder.com, getafreelancer.com, etc.? Good or bad experiences? Problems with folks following through on the work? Thanks for any input.
here's a good advice... i worked on gaf and also posted projects always use their escrow method and always request demos, mockups and so on. never pay in advance unless your instinct tells you to do that. there are a lot of good providers but also a lot more scammers. oh and for GAF list it only for gold members
More like never pay ALL in advance - Once too often I've been bitten by people who flat out don't pay for hours, weeks, even months worth of work... so I've put a 33%/$100, whichever is less minimum non-refundable downpayment on all my CONTRACTS. The most important aspect though is DEMAND a contract (notorized and signed by both parties) before any money changes hand. It gives you legal security that they will in fact complete the project, the legal right to pursue them for not delivering the project, as well as protection for them should you reneg on payment. Small projects below $100 you can probably skip this - but I usually handle jobs that run anywhere from $500 to 2K, and in those cases you need to get legal. If a freelancer balks at the idea of a notorized contract, well... that falls into the category of something else tanicos said: ... more true words have rarely been spoken on this subject.
