Using Flash Content To Seel Product

I've seen tons of big studio movies sites that use Flash games and goodies in an effort to promote their already well-publicized films. I recently came across an independent Christian film company that is using a Flash-based game to help promote their new documentary.

Is this type of tool enough to get someone to purchase a DVD copy of this film?

Are these type of Flash games effective for other online businesses (for example, a Flash doll game that ties the outfits to their online catalog).

    Any thoughts?

Depends on your market, you'll need to do real research on it.

I can really see this working but it might cost some bucks to have the game made if you are not a developer.

It indeed depends a bit on how its executed. If they for example have a game build around a certain product then it is indeed a nice means to generate more visibility, sales etc for a product or for example like a thirt generator for a shop that sells shirts etc. Flash is easy to share and if its popular enough could give you some nice extra eyes on the content in need of promotion.
