Hey Guys, Does anyone have any experience of using Elance or Odesk for Local SEO/Backlinking. I have a client that I need to get on Page one of Google for a Plumbers site not to much competition. I have a small monthly budget and wondered if anyone has used either of them with any success.
Be prepared to sort through a LARGE amount of substandard applicants... there are decent workers to be hired from such sites but they are few and far between. Patience and testing is key.. WebDev

Absolutely- and be sure to ask plenty of questions and take time to write an accurate and testing job description. These subtle efforts will make it easier to discount the poor quality applicants right away. WebDev
It's better just to use a service that provides backlinks, rather than finding people in O-Desk. One way to determine how good a service is to see the testomonials and reviews they have to offer.
