I am building a forum now. currently exploring on drupal. But found it quite limited in features. and when i google for drupal built forums i cant find any. Is it a good idea to build my forum using drupal? or is there better suggestions? thanks for your help~
Do you want just a forum? Drupal is not the best choice for just a forum. There are plenty of forum scripts built for just that purpose. There are SMF, phpBB, PunBB, and a whole lot more. If you want more choices and demos of the most popular, go to OpenSourceCMS.
I recommend you SMF(Simple Machine Forum) with Joomla...SMF is free and can be integrated in to Joomla website P.S - If you need help you can PM me
Look up a module called "ieforum". It's seperate from drupal's default forum and more advanced. There's also ways of making drupal's default forum behave more like a standard forum but I'm not sure exactly what to do.
I've been explored on it and found it very difficult to make it like a standard forum. I wanna build a site with News panels at the main page, showing links to daily important news from dif sources, then there's a forum integrated, and have blog, and most importantly, must have room for improvement. As I think nowadays build a new forum with nothing new wont attract ppl. most ppl out there are already a family member of certain forums, it's difficult to make ppl switch. And drupal met up all these conditions except the forum is too simple. Currently I am wondering whether VBdrupal is the best choice. I've seen it on the website but finds it quite wierd. Maybe will explore on drupal for more time and see whether can make it or not. ieforum module? thanks man, I will explore into that today. About the news panels on the mainpage, I am still thinking of how. I wanna have a few blocks, to have a few categories of news, and in the blocks just show links with titles of the news. When clicking on the link will lead to a page in my site showing the news. And I need this to be auto-backup. Meaning at the end of the block must have a "more" link to see old news of the past days.. How to achieve this with drupal? Thanks
not a wise decision at this point of time now better use vbulletin.. drupal forum would need much time devoted in to make it like a normal forum
Hi, I think ExpressionEngine has the features you are looking for. It appears to be very well integrated. Their whole support/sales site is run its own engine, and it looks very stable. I would go this route, if it works for you, rather than try to piece together a Joomla or Drupal site. Both of these platforms appear to me to be quite chaotic. I wish I could use ExpressionEngine for my site, but it doesn't have the features I am looking for, for my next "experiment". Rich
