If you have banners to promote your directory, do you only have them displayed on other directories or do you have them displayed on other types of sites too? I noticed someone recently asking about a banner exchange site for directories, something that doesn't exist as far as im aware. Do you just trade banners with a few people you know or are you using banner exchange sites? if so, which ones. Obviously i know people have the Sponsored Banner Mod installed, and some have their own banner thing setup. Im thinking about having banners made and so im curious about how you go about getting yours displayed.
I am getting some made and what I will do is place a WTB banner space ad plus I will look at the different banner exchange places they have on the web if need be I can always setup just a page for banner exchanges
i display them @ webmaster sites. I want webmaster traffic. I got banners on file hosting site free web hosting forum other directories directorycritic directory owners forum I am very choosy about who sees my ad. No point advertising on a religeous site. Getting banners on webmaster sites is more likely to get you better CTR, and more likely these will convert into sales. However, advertising anywhere can improve the traffic you bring to your listings. For example, i might get a banner pointing to my games category on a huge gaming forum. As my site is a bidding directory it will increase the value of sites listed there. Give them better traffic and better exposure.
A good point there, to be targetting a particular type and aiming for a good CTR. When you mention a banner pointing to a games category, as an example, do you mean that you will have the banner designed to fit that particular category, or will you just use your general banner with it pointing to the games category?
I think webmaster related sites or directory resource sites are the best. Directory of directories also.
I am displaying the most of my banners on gaming sites, for www.gamingtype.com; It's because my aim is mostly to bring traffic to webmasters that submit. I but text links on webmaster sites, and buy banners on gaming sites; I'd suggest you doing the same, unless you're a general directory;
