Using Digg, Shoutwire, blogs, and myspace as promotion/marketing tools?

I've been a member here for a while but have just recently started browsing this subforum...

To make a long story short, i haven't used digg, shoutwire, or blogs (have done SOME myspace) as promotional tools for ANY of my websites...

my question is, how can any of these be used most effectively...

    i.e.

Digg/shoutwire: do you simply submit stories linking to a page on your site? Any tips for getting them to the front page?

myspace: best way to promote non-myspace related sites? throught bulletins, emails, comment posting, etc...

BLOGS: how can you get bloggers to blog about something on your site and start the "spread" throughout the blog community? what are other ways to promote through blogs?

That is an awesome list! I knew about 60% of them, but it is great to see some others that I was not aware of. I like blogreporter - I wish we could be more people to use it.

Another thread on this site was asking members here to shout their articles on shoutwire and all the articles got banned.

Shoutwire can get you a few thousand visitors pretty quickly but make sure you don't ask people here to shout you! One tip is to get lots of comments as they seem to get you on the front page faster.

    What's up with that?

Getting fast shoutwire hit and you get banned? At least I'm happy to see it's a bit better than Digg. So now, if we want to get Shoutwire(d), we have to comment?

If you have a new innovative idea, doing a press release can help raise awareness of your product/service.

I have done this and then been picked up by the blogging community. Not much came from teh actual press release. But when the blogging community picked it up. All sorts of fantastic things happened :)
