Hi, I have 512mb ram in my intel dual core system. I thought to upgrading this by adding 1gb ram. but i heard using different size of ram is not advisable. also i heard pc runs based on only the slower memory so we lose advantage of using additional capacity ram. can any one help me in this problem.?
If you add 1gb ram to your 512gb, you'll get 1024 MB + 512 MB = 1536 MB RAM and it's not bad. You can mix RAM sizes, but mixing different RAM frequencies will cause that BIOS will set for all RAM's same low frequency from RAM that has it lowest. So if You give 1gb 800MHz + 1gb 533MHz, default frequency will be the lowest, so 533. Some people says to use the same RAM models, frequencies and sizes, especially in Dual Channel mode. Choice is yours.
Actually, it is not advisable to use different sized RAM's. I don't know the exact reason for it. Better you can use another 512MB RAM or you can purchase 1 more 1 GB RAM for your system.
thanks for all your comments. but my motherboard supports only ddr and cost of 1gb ddr ram costs around 1750 at my place . so i chose change my board..
not. that's not true. you can use different size of RAM. but one thing that you've to know, you should be use RAM with same brand.
