This is a newbie question - can anyone give me some info on whether you can use different affiliates on the same site/page? Or is this likely to result in a ban?:(

Most don't allow it I think, but better check out the TOS first, to make sure.

It depends on the program(s). I don't belong to any programs that have a problem with it but like CorollaGT said check the terms and agreements.

I think that most of them allow different affiliate programs. Some just don't allow the same type of advertisment on same page. Like adsense don't allow other ppc text/link ads on same page. You can have them on same website, but not on same page.

Just go through their TOS and you can check if they allow different affiliate links or not.

Yes, it really depends on the program. Some programs will not allow them to be on the same page as a competitor.

Definitely need to read the TOS of each program.

Hi, You may find this Javascript ad rotator useful if you do go multiple, so that you can randomly rotate the ads from the various affiliates.
    Hope this helps
Sorry.. would post the link but the forum won't let me!!!

It's very lame when they don't. However, I think most of the main players like Commission Junction, Link Share, etc. allow it. Be careful if using Adsense and review the terms of service for your campaign as in my experiece, they won't hesitate to close your account for minor TOS violations! Good luck to you.
