Let's say my competitor's company name is 'BigCompany'. So they have web site at URL BigCompany.com.
I know for sure that some people come to my competitor's web site from Google with the keyword 'BigCompany'. I guess they mistyp "BigCompany.com' URL and after that they go to Google asking for help correcting the word. When google gives them the result they just click on the link in search result.
Does it make sense to set up optimized pages on my site targeted to keyword few biggest of my competitor's names? Did somebody use such methods? Was it useful to attract people such ways?

I do it in certain situations. It definately does attract traffic, but it reeeeeeeeally does not go down well with some competitors - so be careful.

If you have very deep pockets I would not worry about it.

How would you feel if your competitor was using your branded keywords that you spend thousands of dollars advertising. branding and getting name recognition? If they were trad marked would you feel even more inclined to fight for your rights? There is fair use but if in question don't do it or talk to a lawyer.

Be careful about that. There are copyright laws against that sort of thing so tread lightly. I wouldn't suggest it because of the legal ramifications but if you're willing to risk it go ahead. i wouldn't.

I think if you use such keywords which is not your product than may be they have rights to claim for that. So i suggest do not go for it instead of it more focus on competitor key words which helps you to get more traffic to your site.
