Would like to use CAPTCHA or something on my web site instead of simply providing a contact email address. I'm interested in suggestions or a simple CAPTCHA type solution, recommendation or script. Thank you.
Few suggestions: http://milki.erphesfurt.de/captcha/ http://psyrens.com/captcha/ http://surneo.com/php/SecurityImages/SecurityImage/1.3/ or http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&q=hide+email&btnG=Google+Search I use dodosmail on several websites and it's working fine for me: http://regretless.com/scripts/scripts.php#dodosmail
Best hint ever: Before you choose, make sure people can SEE them. The one here at DP is damn-near impossible for me to see-- I usually have to try 5 or 6 times unless I'm lucky and get a clear one. The one at Wikipedia works really well for me, though it's targeted at English speakers (nonesense English words with a little bit of wriggle and no interfering backgound to make me go, hmmm, is that a P with a squiggle in the background making it look like an R, or is it an R????) If you mix cases, tell your clients that it is mixed cases. Though I don't recommend them as C and S will look the same and the client will have to guess. I really don't use the search function here anymore without logging in first because of the captcha. If I needed to captcha before logging in, I would never come here. Ever.
There are significant usability issues with captcha images as highlighted above - firstly concider if spam prevention is worth also loosing genuine user contacts. There are other ways of checking human -v- bot which will still have negative impact to users but to a lesser degree than captcha
