Using Blog To Promote Forum

Is using a blog a good idea to promote a forum? Here's what I mean...

My site, Speculation Central (http://www.speculationcentral.com), is about the discussion of technology rumors as well as future technology. I was thinking of starting a blog where I would post articles about these things, so it would be similar to a tech blog (but it would only focus on future stuff). I might also post a bit of commentary on it, and then link to a topic on my forum about the same thing.

Would this work well for promoting the forum? I'm thinking about starting the blog on blogger so it would be separate from my domain and a little easier to search for.

Blogs are a great way of adding viral content to gain natural backlinks - linkbait.

Use your own domain. It's better in the longterm.

Yes, blogs are definitely good. In my newest project, my site consists of articles, a forum, a blog and a newsletter.

Blogs are an awesome way to put your forum under the spotlight. Another way is buy writing an e-book related to your niche and distribute it as a giveaway. Don't forget to place your forum link in there!

I'm also thinking of having my own forum hosed on my blog when my blog is already getting a lot of hits.

Started a forum myself a few months ago for my downline - they joined up alright but with all the attention distractions we all have every day the members just didn't go there enough to make it a worth while exercise!

Think its also horse and cart as we all use the traffic and views we get in forums to attract eyes to our sig - meaning your blog might do better by developing a specialist thread on here where all the eyes are and those esp keen on your niche will follow over to your blog and join your AR newsletter!

    my 2 pennies worth!

    Riddle for you!

With a blog, it is you who are controlling the contents compared to a forum. With this advantage, you can take the opportunity to blog about what others are in need of, properly SEO the blog post so that it will help to get some search engine traffic for your site.

I think it will help if you can show the forums recent threads in your blog using rss feeds.

yes defenetly - i use links to my forum @ my blog also. The only thing i need to do is to post
there (to ad content) and to get users there. But when the blog is used, your forum will be used aswell. ;)
