Using an apostrophe in page's title = DISASTROUS?

I was performing a Google search to see if my blog post had been indexed, and to my surprise, even when the entire title was typed in within quotes, my page was not returned ANYWHERE on Google's SERPs.

    The problem?

I used an apostrophe in the title.

That's right, it was because of something like this: (I've enlarged the font so you can see what I'm talking about.)

    John Doe's Website

    instead of:

    John Doe’s Website

Look at the apostrophes above. Notice a difference? One is a "smart" quote that is curly, and the other is a normal "straight" quote. And apparently Google isn't smart enough (yet?) to realize that they're the exact same thing.

So, just because Wordpress automatically converted my regular apostrophe to a "smart" one, every time someone does a search for "Doe's" my site won't come up. That's because by default, Google uses straight quotes in the search box.

Is there any known way to force Wordpress to not use smart quotes? It seems like it would hinder a lot of SE traffic from finding your content. Just take a look at the Google Trends website and see what the biggest searches are: you'll notice a conspicuous absence: no apostrophes. It seems strange to me that Google wouldn't just equate the two as being the same..
