Using a friend's youtube/vimeo videos on my site, mainly for SEO purposes

    Hi,
I run a mountaineering guiding and instruction company, and am very good friends with the previous owner, who is really keen to see us do well. He has a number of videos on You Tube and Vimeo, which he has said I can use on my site. Ideally, rather than just simply embed them (which I gather has no SEO benefit to me), what is the best way in which to use them?

I can download them or get the originals and upload them to my own channels if that is the best method.

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Hi there
The best method? Use them on your own channel, do keyword research, optimize them (for keywords AND user: title, description, tags, etc). And make sure you are linking to your pages ;-)

    Best regards

Hi, many thanks for your reply. Could I be penalised for uploading (duplicating) the videos to my own channel, so long as I have permission,, which in this instance is verbal?

If he is not claiming his rights and telling youtube that no one else is allowed to use it then everything will be fine.
