We are starting a dating website and I would like to get some opinions from expert developers. The questions is what are the advantage and disadvantage of using a dating script instead of getting a developer to develop one. Of course, the most obvious is cost but can anyone add more to this? If we were to get a developer to build one from scratch the cost would be great since he has to program everything while getting a script can tremendously reduce cost? Please can anyone provide some inputs? Thanks
cost-wise it's best to take an existing package and modify it so it doesn't look standard anymore. for instance you could use a std package and invest in flash design..
In addition to the costs associated with a custom solution, I would consider time-to-market advantage, support, updates, resource availability, plus many more. For example, an existing script would allow you to launch your website quickly versus when the custom solution is completed and ready for production. Product support and updates are available now from vendors for nominal fees versus custom solution, which will cost you $$$. I started a custom platform over 7 months ago, but I have set the project aside to focus on video sharing now. The development is resource intensive and I simply do not have the free time to complete it now. I would consider using an off the shelf script now, but I am a programmer so I opted for a custom solution. I hope to finish it first quarter of next year. Good luck.
Yes, I totally agree. Ready-made solutions have many benefits including, of course, professional support that we all need when starting and learning how to use software. If you have desire to change a code, you simply take open source version and get your developer add minor features to make your dating site unique and attractive for your crowd. Check PG Dating Pro software – all features are there, nice design and lots of manuals, updates, free support… looks good to me!
I am launching one shortly. I have tried pretty much everything available and they are not very good. I may give emeeting a whirl. There is something seriously weird if not straight up corrupt going on in that demographic for some reason. In the meantime, we are working on a custom solution. If the script will do your job, it is stupid to re-invent the script yourself. If the script won't do your job, then you must modify it or THEN do the job yourself.
As for as the terms & conds good b/w you & Script license provider, it is ok.. But there may be some points in license,,, like license is not transferrable & not for sale to others... After some more years, your site value will be great like in billions..but if u cant sell your site whats the use? that time your script provider ask billions of money to him to sell the license..
