Using 301s for pages that are not removed

    Normally I 301 pages that I've removed.

A client has a oscommerce catalog site that has a page site.com/catalog/index.php that has nothing in it but I can't get rid of. For some reason that I can't figure out a there are a lot of landings there in the stats. I want people to end up at a html index page instead.

Should I use a 301 that redirects that page to the index.html page. Will that cause any problems?
