Is putting 123 in front of domains still good when people browse through sites in category areas as the site ex: 123me.com comes first cause of the numbers? What about search engine traffic, do the 123 make the sites come #1?

hmm I would say no. I personally would never go onto a website with 123 in the domain name. It does no good for SEO what-so-ever, unless your business name is 123. You should think what's best for the user.

Well, I think the domain selection will be broader, and it's easier to remember... however, it's not going to improve search engine optimization.

the domain look ugly, but no problem for se. the factor to make your site get its ranking is the quality of your content and backlinks that it.
