    Hello my friends,

Firstly let me say that I am neither complaining about, nor praising the current username change policy. Only making an inovative suggestion.

I have read this post by Shawn : http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=273078

And I totally understand not wanting to stall up the DP forum for 5-10 minutes for each username change.. that would be really annoying.

I have done research and I do not see any similar suggestions to the one I am posting so I thought it was worth it to post. I'm just trying to be a productive, proactive, member of DP :) That's all.

    _________________________________________________________

I see that the main reason for not changing usernames is that it seizes up the DP server. But I wonder if there is a way around this problem, like a dedicated server for user names? I am not a tech wizard and will not pretend to be so I may be WAY OFF... lol

So here is what I am suggesting:

    Allow "Conditional" Username changes.
Add a new section/forum specifically for user name change requests.
Assign a moderator to be solely responsible for user name changes.
If not a seperate request forum, then perhaps a PayPal button that takes you to a request form.
Dedicate one day/time each week for processing user name changes.

    The Conditions:
*Users must have been a member for at least 2 years.
*Users must have a 100% positive Itrader feedback.
*Users must not have ever been banned.
*Users must not have any current infractions.
*User must pay a $10-$20 user name change fee.

    _______________________________________________________

Just think, if 100 members a week change there username that would result in a possible $1,000 -$2,000 extra weekly revenue (not bad). Honestly, I bet some people would pay up to $50! Possibly enough to pay for a new server???? I'm not sure.. lol

Just an idea for the future of DP.

    Thanks for you time!
    Rich

Changes as the one suggested ultimately fall in Shawn's domain.

My thought on the subject is that it would be more of an accounting hassle that it would be worth.

Still... what's the good of revenue if it crashed the database and rendered the forum unusable every time it was done?

How many users satisfy all those requirements? 100 members like that changing their username weekly is an optimistic figure, at best...

That's why I said only one schedualed change time a week, or even a month if need be. Also that's why I asked if more money would solve the down time problem.. Seems that money solves alot of issues, perhaps this one too.. I really don't know.

LOL, true but obviously the "conditions" are just a suggestion and Shawn would make whatever "conditions" he so chooses, if he even wanted to inact such a policy.

Thanks for your comments guys :)

Well, it costs $50.00 to have a custom title, so I presume a username change would cost more... :)
