Hello - I just installed Joomla, it's my first experience with the CMS. Everything is going fine except I'm getting ton of spam registrations which is very annoying, I installed an extension available on joomla website called: JCCreCaptcha and it's not working at all! I tried it myself registration then typing wtvr is on the fields and it goes thru.. Any ideas how to take care of this issue? I'm sure i'm not the only one. Thank you
I tried one that flagged as Popular. It's on the registration page but you can pass it typing anything you want. I have no idea how to solve this.. my site is new and im getting tons of registrations.
Thank you and Installed, However I don't have it showing at the registration page. I have no idea why.
the one I just installed because I had same issue is called System - Registration Validator or I'm not sure if that is correct title but look it up in joomla extensions directory. It does not use Captcha instead it checks the e-mail for validity and uses many others forms of finding spam mail that I do not know much about but so far it worked and I tested a registration and that is still working too. No more wasting your time filling out a captcha form filled with BS you can't see. Jeremy
Thank you for the info. I was actually disappointed finding out what some people call one of the best CMS doesn't have the basic features like anti spam captcha etc. I tried lotof them and most of them don't work or don't even appear. I will search for System - Registration Validator and try it out. Thank you
hi, maybe you can try to use this component Alpha Registration, i think this a popular component for user registration with captcha include, may help you
Installed, Thank you I don't see any verification to pass to register? How this can help stopping spam? Thank you
Dear AdamFL, that's what I was trying to explain... While CAPTcha is somewhat impossible to cheat ... And yes I was confused at first too of how this works but if you read carefully the description it tells you the many ways that it works:: -stop bots and spammers WITHOUT CAPTCHA. Works with Community Builder 1.2, Virtuemart, CBE, AjaxRegistration, JomSocial. Captcha is annoying for users, and also has accessibility issues. This plugin prevents unwanted signups without needing captcha or any additional user verification. It reduces rogue signups by a huge amount due to numerous checks made on the IP and email address of the originator. - Block disposable email addresses (internal list and check against undisposable.net). - Block domains and/or subdomains. - Block usernames. - Block IPs or IP ranges. - Block bots by checking against BotScout database. - Perform DNS lookup on email domains. - Perform Spamhaus lookup on IP addresses (SBL, XBL) - Reject contact submissions containing URLs. - Reject contact submissions based on Undisposable, BotScout, StopForumSpam. - Optionally creates a log of all activity - you can see what it is doing: who was blocked, and who was passed. If the email address passes the internal check, it is still checked against undisposable.net. Registration is allowed if either undisposable.net is unavailable (which seems to be constantly, at the moment) or the address does not come back as invalid. I decided to use this because I use community builder to have registration on my site so I required an extension that supports it.. So this will work for you as well. Jeremy
hi mr adamFL, at first you should register an account at Recaptcha and you will get a Public Key and Private Key code, that you can insert it on the component at joomla backend, if you had do this step, i think the captcha will appear when user want to register at your website....
Hi Adam, If it is required i will integrate recapcha inside your CMS registrations and check where the vulnerability comes from and code the barriers for them.. No worries, you will get the control over the spam.
Thank you guys. I installed what you recommended( System - Registration Validator, Alpha registration, etc) and sadly i'm still getting this annoying registrations. I don't know what I'm missing.
make sure the plugin is enabled and all the features enabled.. Make sure you've upgraded to the lates tjoomla 1.5.15 to be sure you weren't hacked..
try to disable your registration and see what happen ..if there're many spam to your site ..so it perhaps your site was getting hacked.....shutdown your site for a while and update it with latest joomla update...then change your site administrator user and password
Why spam thing is going on for this i have to look inside it. Would you please send me the url with admin credentials. I will check it and possibly resolve this for you. My email is
Ok info sent! Thank you for your help offer. I personally tried few things and nothing seems to work for me. Let's see what's the real issue.
