User map

Just looked at the new user map and it appears a bit inaccurate (I assume it is based on my IP address?).

Could you add a field to the user profile for latitude and longitude? That way you could pinpoint each user better on the map.

Also the popup could show who the user was with a link to their profile and maybe their avatar as well.......

The 2nd part of your suggestion has been rejected before for privacy concerns.

I thought that may be the case.

If a user chooses to input their coordinates then they agree to being on the map, if they don't then they don't appear.

    Just a thought :)

Nah... while IP geolocation isn't 100% accurate, it's pretty close. Giving people the ability to "override" their location makes it potentially useless.

May I ask why you are not releasing this mod on vb.org?

One reason is I don't want people asking me support questions about it... another reason is it requires a commercial geo-targetting DB, which costs about $1,000... so kind of pointless... not like people are going to license a $1,000 DB just to do it.

Thanks anyway, it looks awesome, hopefully some day it can be a free mod or maybe affordable commercial product.
