This guy owns a site and he keeps copying my content. Sometimes he copies it exactly word-for-word, other times he just rewrites it when it's obviously been taken from my own site, and sometimes a combination of both. I'm considering sending a DMCA complaint to his web host, but the thing about that is, he owns his web host. What should I do? Any ideas?
I would still send the DMCA. If he does not comply with your request you have one more strike against him if you decide to persue him further.
Get his IP. Then start feeding him something more 'useful' when he comes to visit. He'll soon stop coming.
I do not think a legit host would do such a thing. so I do not think he owns the host. I think he could be a reseller masking his ip to make it look like he own his host, or he is the one in charge. Keep doing your research on him. I bet you a dollar he is not the owner.... check with the copyright office to see if his website is listed: http://www.copyright.gov/onlinesp/ If his website is not listed, then you can sue him for damages without any dmca notice. but then you are talking about atty fees, court costs, and so on....
Well, if he is his own host, chances are there is someone larger who is providing his bandwidth. I would talk to them. They would probably be more receptive to a DMCA takedown request.
