usefulness of Youtube for increasing traffic - is it real

I have seen lots of threads about people selling their services to market videos watermarked with the company logs and stuff in the hope to increase traffic to the website.
My question is - Has anyone tried it and found it to work?
If yes how many extra visitors you got? 10, 100, 100 a day or more?
    Or this just another hogwash?

It should work, the number of visitors depends on how viral the video converts.

I think it works, but you can't depend on it for large traffic. I, myself, found few tutorial sites from youtube videos.

The traffic depends on a lot of factors and numbers of views the video gets is maybe the most important.

Bait and switch - Some people that post videos on youtube will do a bait and switch. Meaning they will put a picture of a pretty woman in the middle of the video - which is where the preview image comes from. People will see the preview image, see the woman, start to watch the video, see some guy sitting there talking and close the video. Most of the time viewers will only watch the first few seconds of a bait and switch video. Ask the producer if they use bait and switch tactics.

Nitch - is the video and the producer targeted towards your nitch?

Subscribers - the producer, how many subs does he/she have? This will get the video watched by more people quicker. If the producer has just a few subs, that is not good. If the producer has thousands of subs and has been on youtube for a long time - that is good. If the producer has a lot of subs, the video will get watched within seconds of being posted.

Copyright infringement - will the producer upload videos that violate copyright protection laws? If he/she does do that, the video will be deleted and your money gone. Make sure the producer uses music and videos they own or have permission to use.

Youtube can be a powerful force for driving traffic to your site. But, for long term traffic you have to make sure the video will stay on youtube and not get deleted in just a few days.

I think it works. For example, you got an interesting video and posted in youtube. At the end of video come out with your URL. I'm sure lot of visitors will later look for your website, thus, traffic increase. :)
