Use primary IP or secondary IP for new domain on the same server ?

    Hello,

I have a website running on a dedicated server. The ISP provides 5 primary IPs per customer and 4 secondary IPs per server.

I am planning to host another website now on the same server. I have two choices - use the same IP (primary IP) on the server for both websites. Or use a secondary IP for the second website. If I ever have to move the second site to a new server, I will have to do some reconfiguration anyway, as secondary IPs are not portable.

So, the question is: what are the pros and cons in using the secondary IP and pointing to the same IP for the second site ?

    Thanks

    pf

There is no real pro's or con's on how you do it. I have customers that use the one IP for the server and for 20+ websites. Then again, I have customers who use the one IP for the server and then different IP's for each site.

Personally I would prefer to use the one IP for the server and different IP's for each site instance.

Is this server going to be behind a firewall?
