Use of www in urls

Well, this is something I didn't realize. I was adding another small site to bind with my master site (to share the weight because I feel I'm getting links too fast) and when I checked the backlinks for this site in yahoo I have 21 for "www.mysite.com." Then I took out the "www" and Yahoo shows 121 backlinks.

So my question is, when I added this site to the co op, should I have used the "www" or not, or does it make a difference?

And since I have already signed the site on the co op with the "www" can I make ads to go to the url without the www. ?

    Carol K,
I would recommend that you use one version or the other [Non-WWW or WWW]. I would also recommend that you use a 301 redirect to redirect one version to the other.

I would suggest to use wither one, (I would use with www), and use it EVERYWHERE. No links should point to the URL without www.

So if I want to use the url with the most backlinks (which is non-www) then I hve to delete the site I just added with the "www"? Or is there an "edit url box" :)

I'm not sure I understand what your asking. The "Ad Network" isn't based on "Backlinks."

You can edit the URL: Coop Ad Network > Edit Account Settings > Site/Forum URL

The reason we started linking without the www is because the url is a keyword, and when people type it in the search they wouldn't add "www" (Make sense?) So the url without the "www" has more backlinks.

The hubby says a 301 wouldn't do any good, Google don't like them.

To each their own. Play at your own risk. ;)

"Ad Network" isn't based on "Backlinks?" I guess I need to do more studying then. Isn't that what everybody keeps checking?

I think what you're noticing is members discussing how many backlinks are being generated because of the Ad Network. [Based on weight]

Thanks Jeffrey for clarifying that. As far as the 301, personally, I would sneak right in to the FTP and add it :) I don't like taking risks, but I guess if I think about it, every tweak I make to my websites is risky.

Thanks for your help! May we all prosper and be in health this year!
