Being a flash developer I am working on a new game. In this game I will need to use some satellite images. Does anyone know where can I get some free satellite images that I am allowed to use in the game? Google earth does not allow me to use this: Thanks.
I believe you can use Bing Maps for commercial use, just need to sign an agreement. Not positive though.
which area do you need ?? and what resolution ? 1 m 2 m 15 m - ? there are lots for the usa there is lots available in public domain at the usgs seamless server - for europe and rest of the world less - but you can find some for spain again on public domain - and that is what you need - most of the world is also covered with landsat images but those come at 15 m resolution - if you like to work on the game and see the photorealistic ground - i recomend not to use above 4 m resolution. here is an idea of the work can be done using orthophotos - this is anchorage in photorealistic for the flight simulator - we did back few months ago ! uses usgs 1 ft orthophoto resample at 2 m :
What I will be needing is an image exactly from above. cause in the game it will be used also as a satellite image. As for the zoom, I will need something as big as a country (or even a continent) but in a few missions I will also need something as close as just a few buildings.
satellite images or orthophotos do not come in one whole bit - after a certain size for example 2 / 3 gb they break them. no continent has ever been completely covered - but resolution at building size is a 1 ft - we talking about a massive ammount of data - no continent has a complete coverage of that kind - as said most free orthophotos images are from the usgs seamless server or from the naip program - available from: http://datagateway.nrcs.usda.gov/ the usda gateway is the biggest provider for satellite and orthophotos for the usa - at no cost. different country or continent - not many around - you need to google to find them.
