Usable images in articles for MMA?

    Hey everyone!

I have an MMA site, among other sites, and want to implement photos of the latest UFC, WEC fights (such as one fighter striking another inside the cage). I will not be in any way be using these images to generate profit. Will these photos be covered under the fair use act and hence, legal for me to implement into my articles? Does this also apply to TV show and video game screenshots? Thanks!

As someone who takes photos at mma events I would say that as long as you are crediting the photographer with a link to where you got thr photo you shouldnt have a problem.

You should always obtain permission before you use any photograph. Fair use is not a black and white issue and can be subjective. Even non-commercial usage can be infringement. Crediting the photographer may be enough for some, but doesn't give you automatic usage rights. You can say that the chances may be extremely small that you will be sued, but ultimately there is a risk.

If the resource where you found the image states that you can use it, then follow the instructions for crediting that they provide.

If they don't state their demands, then you should ask permission.

Take a look at how to search for free-for-use images. :)

I agree that if you take the time to credit the photographer, individuals in the photograph, get permission to use the photo, and only use the photograph the way you outlined when asking permission you should be okay. It might seem like a pain but trust me its worth the time and effort.
