America truly rose to power internationally after WWII. I'm guessing both you and I are too young to remember the back to back worldwide conflicts stacked 20 years apart, but most sane people would rather never see those days again. You can thank US taxpayers for Pax Americana. Just talking about it reminds me how naive it is to think the US, and the whole rest of the planet, wont get involved if Pakistan lets one fly over India, or Iran to Israel, or N. Korea on S. Korea, etc, etc, etc. The next one is going to make the first two look tame by comparison.

With something like only 18 days of oil reserves in the bank I believe that's only wishful thinking on all our parts. It won't happen until renewables have taken over IMHO.

 

Actually, as far as oil the US purchases, on last check - we get the most from Canada, second is Mexico, and third is Saudi Arabia. I can't imagine any of them refusing to sell us oil, if we became less involved in the world.

U.S. military is always there on each side of the war. as the most powerful country in the world, they certainly have a purpose and a specific mission, that is ruling the world.

 

If it was our purpose to rule the world, we'd not be paying as much as we do for gas, bailing out other nations, or helping the helpless and defenseless at every turn. I doubt we'd be buying goods that say made in Indonesia as well, that that were the case.
