I am a staunch defender of Israel's right to exist, free from terror within and from threats without. (As I am a staunch believer that until the Palestinian people are given their own sovereign status, there will continue to be a great tragedy in that land). But let's also be real. Israel has been armed to the teeth by we in the U.S., in a way that no arab nation ever was. It doesn't discount Israel's courage or the Israeli soldier's fighting ability in, say, the 6-day war, but it cannot be discounted that without the tremendous amount of direct financial and military aid from the U.S., it would likely be a different picture. Israel didn't create this mess. A whole host of things did, and it didn't start in 1948. Many dates, states and people have a hand in it. But that's the subject of another thread.
Apart from all financial borrowing, what kinds of aid are you speaking about? 3 billion a year in millitary aid isn't much, especially considering that the primaristic country Egypt gets 2 billion.
Latehorn, I'm not sure what you're asking. In your own post you ask what kind of aid is being given, "besides all kinds of financial borrowing," and then post a source that shows roughly $3 bil a year, increasingly in the way of grants (and not loans, or borrowing), which you term (incorrectly) as military aid. So, it seems you answered your own question, within the same post. Did you have an additional question? There are many, many sources on this (just a quick comb of the web, looking for some relatively unbiased material, yielded this.). This would be an empty argument, so I won't go down this extended debate.
1937, 1947, 1967, 1993, 2000 - What do these years have in common? Each of the years, the "palestinian people" rejected sovereignty. They need to "accept" their own sovereign status. Are there any other countries in the world who need a "right to exist?" And your point is? We support a lot of countries, both with money and military. Though it's a few years old, I always enjoy reading Victor Davis Hanson's articles: http://www.nationalreview.com/hanson/hanson040202.asp
Well I wonder If you meant the 3billion thing? 3billion is not much. You said that US have armed israel to it's teeth, right?
