Of course they are. They always have been, in any country, not just the US.

Think of it this way ... if you were the person in charge of controlling information flow, how would you do it? A few well-placed journalists, editors and schedulers who work for you, the Government, would be able to bury any story you didn't like, or at least put a spin on it that made it seem like a non-issue.

What else would you do? Bar any journalist who wasn't favourable to your particular line of spoon-fed sound-bytes or anyone whoever wrote anything derogatory from ever getting close enough to ask a question.

The blacklisted journalists are useless to the publication / media outlet since they can't get the 'insider' stuff while the toadies - those who write only in your favour - get the breaks, therefore their stories are always the ones that make it to press.

I'm sure anyone can come up with a few more ways on making certain the mass audience gets fed the propaganda stories or the real stories never get to air. The above are everyday examples of controlling the media.

Why, for example, is the photographing of the coffins of those soldiers killed in combat never aired? That footage was constantly aired during the Vietnam war.

Bad for morale and counter-productive to the goals of the Government. Simple as that.

Ok here is the new one from Rueters as of today

    Read the article

They are debunking the first story of an air strike against Iran. An airstrike would be wrong as I honestly think that we can solve this whole thing without it.

Iran isn't a threat. Haha. Nobody remembers the 90's?

A lot of people thought Muslim Pakistan would nuke India, or blow up Israel and maybe sneak a nuke on the USA.

    Didn't happen.

Regardless, the true threat to America is not Iran. This is a ploy to get our eyes looking elsewhere when the real threat is our Communist neighbor to the south.

You will understand the extent of the media coverup on May Day. I guess no one else saw the beheaded white males on all the flags at the LA protests. Or the "La Reconquista" signs.

Almost every Middle Eastern country is dedicated to wiping Israel off the map. And America.

If you are Muslim, you must be dedicated to destroying all infidels.

    Dar-Al Islam.

Mohammed has said that all infidels must convert or be killed. No exceptions.

We are fighting a religious war. One that kills Athiest, Christian, Buddhist, alike.

The only fortune, is that most muslims can't read Arabic, and therefore can't read the Qu'Ran. So some moderate Clerics interpret it differently.

Where are you in Korea? I was in Tong du Chon in the mid-late 80s.

Haha. I usually hang out with my girlfriend in Cheong Ju. It's a big city next to Taegu. Korea is awesome. It's amazing to meet so many english-speaking people telling me that I'm the "first white person I ever saw"

Basically you were in Korea when I was born. I'm 18 years old. Haha. :D Hopefully that doesn't detract from my ability to converse with you.

I graduated highschool at 16, and am CEO of a small corporation. Flew to meet my penpal, as much of a cliche as that is, and decided to stay in Korea for a while. While my highschool peers are worrying about who to take to Prom, I'm worrying about my IPO.

And combating public ignorance, on forums such as these. ;)

Until I get the funds to buy a slot of prime time television, there's not much else I can do.

Taegu is way south from where I was. I believe Camp Henry is close to there. I was about 20 miles from the DMZ where North/South meet.

Sounds like you have it going on! Quite impressive to be so far ahead in life at such a young age. You have good grasp of the political arena too! Let me know when your stock is available :D

even a completely hesitant discussion of the use of nukes against iran is DISGUSTING. we should not even have this in the back of our minds.

if we have to go to war, let's do it in a way that doesn't make everyone else think using nukes is okay.

    lead by example...

    Were you serving USFK?

haha, I'll be sure to let you know about the stock! My company's real profit is turned by investing in under-valued foreign entities. Perhaps war-time exploitation as well.

Kuwait was down to $.30 per dinar in 1992, up to $30 per dinar in '98. That kind of thing. The best place to invest right now is actually Iraq, as we have improved the infrastructure, opened up capitalist measures etc. Iraq dinar is at it's 100 year all time low. :D

The best way to make a profit is with devastated countries. Liberal financier George Soros made billions off of Clinton's Kosovo conflict, etc.

Halliburton will make billions off of Iraq, etc. The cycle goes on. :D

As for the Political Arena, indeed! More like Political Combatant Pit.

I'm not sure which tactic works better: blunt facts, or pretending to be on their side and sneaking in the truth.

The hardest people to reach are close-minded people who think they are open-minded.

The wars on Iraq and Iran are nothing but licking Isreal's ass. I say let Israel fight alone! They created the mess they should deal with it themselves. However, Mr. Bush just said that America will fight for Israel. I think he's out of his f!@#king mind. Somebody call a shrink!

I was stationed there while in the US Army.

Facts have no value with a liberal. You'll find exceptional proof behind Ron White's assertion that you can't fix stupid.

Actually, they have been taking care of it. Every time arab countries start something with Israel, they get their ass handed to them, then start a campaign about how they are victims over it.

I'm sure Israel could easily handle them. They've been taking care of everyone else for years now ;)

What we should do, is help the Jews take ALL of the middle east countries. Then, after the Jews are in control of everything over there, we will have so much oil it will be $.10 a gallon. To hell with these crazy ass people blowing themselves up and trying to kill all "non-believers". Let the bombing begin. :)

The New Yorker has the best coverage of this issue: an interesting article Next Stop Iran... Would President Bush go to war to stop Tehran from getting the bomb? The author is abviously very well connected to get the information and comments he has... and some interesting points made.

If you read the New Yorker article it talks about painting targets in Iran with lasers to aid bombing precision. That is pretty much the most important part Australian SAS forces contributed to the Iraq war... the sneaky sneaky stuff before all hell breaks loose.

While the same exercise may be going on in Iran now, I doubt the US will start a bombing campaign without some kind of further provocation (stupid comments from the Iran leader) or decent proof they can present to the UN.

If the US 'goes it alone' again, with a 'coalition of the willing' and without the endorsement of the UN... you have got to think the credability of both the UN and the US will suffer.

It sure doesn't sound like the UK will back a play against Iran any time soon without significant provication / proof.

They did just that a few times and always kicked ass. Then the Arab Nations go crying to the UN saying that they’ve been invaded by Israel. Remember the six day war.
