Congressman Barney Frank, chair of the House Financial Services Committee, is considering legislation that would overturn a ban on online gambling passed last fall. B. Frank calls the US ban "preposterous" and one of the "stupidest" laws ever passed. Praise the Lord - God opposes online gambling prohibition! If the U.S. government was like some of Canada's provincial governments and offered their own online gambling alternatives, no one in the Congress or Senate would consider legislating against online gambling. But, as we are discovering in Canada, gambling has a way of corrupting those involved. We have a slowly developing scandal at the Ontario Lottery Corporation; and rapidly rising crime rates at casinos in British Columbia. A few years ago, a B.C. premier even lost his job over alleged corruption surrounding the issuance of casino licenses in the province. Meanwhile, on the internet, you have unregulated and unpoliced gambling in an environment where it is impossible for users to begin to perceive when they are being cheated. Because of the laws in individual countries, operators must, of necesssity, operate in the grey zone between what is legal and what is criminal and between what is moral or ethical and what is not. Such environments and easy money are always corrupting.
I agree, they should lift the ban against gambling. I agree that people will become addicted, but this is inevitable. Adults should be able to make their own decisions and choices.
It hurt the poker sites which bothers me the most... you can't get cheated on a poker site, it's skill driven.
Very true, not all of gambling is %100 chance Now may be the time to buy some shares in the big US based poker sites...
Lol, bots... you mean those little calculator things? I wouldn't call that cheating, more like accurate note keeping. I've never seen collusion at the table either, and even if that was happening, the game is still skill driven.
