.us domains are apparently meant only to be owned by US people. What would happen if a non-US person bought a .us domain name? I'm sure there are lots of people out there who aren't from the US who own them. What would happen if someone finds out? Would that person lose that domain name?
No, they're "meant" to be "owned" by people having a bonafide US presence. I know of several who live outside the US, but they have a US-based address for their US-based interests (e.g. business) who also have .US domains. It's just a matter of being able to meet their nexus requirements regularly. But if a non-US person buys a .us domain and doesn't meet the requirements in a timely manner, then they very well stand a chance to lose it. Neustar, the .US registry, regularly conducts "spot checks". They also send a notice or so upon being reported of such.
So if Neustar finds out these requirements doesn't meet they just cancel domain from the person who owns it ? Do they let the person to give it away or give it to a US resident or someone eligible for buying .US Domains ? Also what about US persons who buy IDN Domains of other countries There are 100's of Domainers who do this, They would suffer the same fate if these countries finds out ?
Here is the policy http://www.nic.us/policies/nexus_requirement.html I have a US registered business although I am not located in the US and I was able to register it.
I'd double check that with that registrar, if I were you. Don't wait for someone here to prove that wrong.
