Chris Clark, 43, accepted the offer from an anonymous bidder after a week-long online auction. "It's crazy, it's just crazy," Mr Clark, who lives in North Potomac, Maryland, was quoted as saying by the Baltimore Sun newspaper. "It will make a significant difference in my life, for sure," he added. Regret Mr Clark registered the domain name in 1994, when the world wide web was just starting. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7331042.stm That is a really big money for a domain name
amazing story. I wish the internet was only just starting now, then I could register lots of great domains.
That domain game is over GameOver.. All cool domains been registered.. If there were a time machine, I would be rich
And the seller didn't even know that the domain he owned was worth that much money, he only found out when Vodka.com sold for millions.
if you think smart enuff there is still a small chance you can get something. Think different : For example http://del.icio.us I wonder if that anon bidder is going to sell the domain to Smokinjoes or dominoes or some pizza company for a higher price Regards, ASHISH T.
OR.. that person could consolidate all pizza companies from around the world and take orders then distribute to the actual local franchises and charge 1-3% per order. It's all about the fees.......................
This domain is worthless without the software and marketing behind it. If someone were to register it for the first time today... No one would buy it from them. That is the point others are making. Easy money names are all gone with the exception of new emerging products/technologies/company names, etc. If you can catch one of those before they get big... you'll earn some cash. Other than that... you need to build a brand now a days to sell it for some money... and that is not easy money.
Agreed.. didn't want to go in all the detail in a post but ya, exactly what I was thinking when I read that. It's common sense really.....
Wow they have a portal there already, and a forum: Take the poll: Overpriced? Underpriced? Price is Right? ...?: http://pizza.com/pizza-forum/online-pizza-search-engine-gets-sold-for-2-6-million-t81.html
Good for him..his registrar did not suck him... if he registered that domain with registerfly or godaddy, he could kiss goodbye to his pizza..LOL
