I remember recently seeing a whole lot of talk by people in the US regarding some changes in legislation that (I think) was related to tax law. I'm not a US resident so I'm not certain where to look and my searches so far have only mentioned changes but no reference to actual legistlation. From what I can find this is the reason for the mass exodus by internet marketers to California where apparently this new set of laws is not applicable. Can anyone advise me of what this legislation is and how it works or point me to a site that can explain it. Thanks.
I'm not sure what you are talking about, but the main tax in the US is at the Federal level, so it doesn't matter what state you live in. Most states also have a state income tax, which varies according to state. A few states have no income tax at the state level (Nevada, Wyoming, Texas, etc). "mass exodus by internet marketers to California" - I live in California and it has one of the highest tax rates around. People are leaving, the state is broke and raising taxes. It's very expensive for a business to operate here on most levels. You certainly don't want to operate here for a tax advantage. No state would be exempt from a federal law. The only thing that is Internet related that I've heard of, is California is considering collecting sales tax on out of state sales that originate here. Amazon has warned they will stop doing business with affiliates here if they pass that law. There is also talk of a law at the Federal level, which would make it moot anyway - but California taxes everything and is the most aggressive state when it comes to collecting. Nevada is business friendly, but you have to like the desert. There are basically only two areas in the entire state that have trees - as in a forest. North Shore Tahoe, and the Mt. Charleston area out of Las Vegas.
OK thanks for that info. Probably more than I needed to know but hey it's always good to learn new things about a far away land such as where the trees are. That Amazon issue rings a bell so maybe that's what all the talk was about that I remember seeing. Could you explain that a little more or provide another site that gives some details?
