hi im intrested in buying a domain name with a .us extenstion does google see these extenstion's any less than .com or .co.uk? Should i avoid certain extensions?
If you are targeting UK traffic then go for co.uk , it does help in rankings. I have had more experience in search engine optimisation than the two people above me and have been researching on my own different ways of optimising sites for search engines. I have tested similarly - .com versus .co.in for google india and it makes a huge impact.
i think there is setting in google webmaster tools to specify targeted country .. it will also show some difference in result.
thanks for the advice. What about the biz extension being a country neutral one is it worth considaration if com co.uk not available?
all TLDs are treated equal. if however you target a specific geo, then regional TLDs are better. co.uk would be more appropiate if you specifically target UK audience. however, when you login to google webmaster tool, you can set your geographt so even with .com, you can set UK as your region. but visitors from UK are more likely to click on a site that has .uk extention "thinking" that will give them more relevant result. just human psychology
.us is crap, avoid it, if you are targeting the international google, always go for .com or .net, tlds are treated differently. yes google do take tld's into account.
Well there is some specifics in domains. .US domain is regional domain, used for dedicate website for United States. .COM is global domain.
Google gives coutry preference to cctld domain like .us. SO you will not get good ranking in other countries.
That is what everyone in the above posts are trying to say about the regional domains (just to be more specific)
Dude everyone is replying the same. At least read the posts above you. Someone has already mentioned that point about a couple of times.
