Does the US have proof of identity requirements for web hosts?

The only email I got from hostgator when they suspended a brand new account without warning was that they wanted a copy of ID.

Before I start trying to create an account with someone else does anyone know if there is a special requirement for additional ID verification of non-US citizens by US-based-hosts?

No, there is not. But since there is so many frauders and thiefs out on the internet, they check the validate of the identify of their buyers. So they are sure its not some guy with a stolen credit card buying hosting from them.

I hope this clears out things for you.
