US, Europe scramble to stop Georgia-Russia war

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The United States and European Union are leading a diplomatic push to prevent all-out war between Georgia and Russia, calling for a ceasefire as Russian tanks rolled into a rebel Georgian province
If what was doen to Russian citizens was done to US citizens or Israeli what do you think they would do?
Hisbula for example kidnapped 2 Israeli soldiers and they devasted Lebanon.
Knowing how US politicians think, if US citizens were killed with this sort of an agression Saakashvili has next to none chances to stay in power.

Saakashvili and his government by all means must go. Or Russians face troubles forever with this kind of man.

"....Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters in Moscow that some 1,500 people have been killed, with the death toll rising Saturday.

The figure could not be independently confirmed, but witnesses who fled the fighting said hundreds of civilians had probably died. They said most of the provincial capital, Tskhinvali, was in ruins, with bodies lying everywhere.
The air and artillery bombardment left the provincial capital without water, food, electricity and gas. Horrified civilians crawled out of the basements into the streets as fighting eased, looking for supplies.

Russian Gen. Vladimir Boldyrev claimed in televised comments Saturday that Russian troops had driven Georgian forces out of the provincial capital. Witnesses confirmed that there was no sign of Georgian soldiers in the streets......." http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080809/wl_afp/georgiasossetiarussiaunrestdiplomacy_080809110431

Thats why they stay quiet, because they would do the same thing or perhaps worse.

..............Russia's foreign minister said that Georgia brought the airstrikes upon itself by bombing civilians and Russian peacekeepers, and warned that the small Caucasus country should expect more attacks.

"Whatever side is used to bomb civilians and the positions of peacekeepers, this side is not safe and they should know this," Lavrov said.

Asked whether Russia could bomb the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, Lavrov answered: "I don't think the bombing is coming from Tbilisi, but whatever part of Georgia is used for this aggression is not safe."............... http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080809...y_080809110431

US generals for example would think about this: "Bombing was not coming from Tbilisi, but it was ordered from there".
Remember how US bombed Serbia's TV station killing journalists? Remember Bombing Serbia’s bridges, factories ....?
Remember Israel bombing all over Lebanon in their war with Hisbula?

Russians will make a big mistake if they let Saakashvili in power. He is a proven war criminal and must be brought to court.

Thats what Russia plans to do, to sue him with investigation from Strasbourg court for attacking peacekeepers.

Meanwhile, access to all .RU domains on the territory of Georgia is blocked. Dictatorship.

    Medvedev has only one choice.
Do what he has to do and not listen to western tips and advice. I can assure you the west wants weak Russia. For example chechen terrorists are given refuge and are still living freely in western countries. Is that helping Russia against the terrorists?
Of course no. But in the west they are accepted as freedom fighters. .... Even now the west does not charge Saakashvili with war crimes, but wants Russia to stop its offensive against Georgian forces.

Obama and McCane opinions on the war:

"....While Obama offered a response largely in line with statements issued by democratically elected world leaders, including President Bush, first calling on both sides to negotiate, John McCain took a remarkably — and uniquely — more aggressive stance, siding clearly with Georgia’s pro-Western leaders and placing the blame for the conflict entirely on Russia. ..............

McCain’s statement was longer, more detailed and more confrontational.

"[T]he news reports indicate that Russian military forces crossed an internationally recognized border into the sovereign territory of Georgia. Russia should immediately and unconditionally cease its military operations and withdraw all forces from sovereign Georgian territory.

John McCain’s top foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann, defended McCain’s direct criticism of Russia in the early hours of the crisis.

"Sen. McCain is clearly willing to note who he thinks is the aggressor here,” he said, dismissing the notion that Georgia’s move into its renegade province had precipitated the crisis. "I don't think you can excuse, defend, explain or make allowance for Russian behavior because of what is going on in Georgia.”

He also criticized Obama for calling on both sides to show “restraint,” and suggested the Democrat was putting too much blame on the conflict’s clear victim.

This guy McCain is a clear idiot IMO. Do America a favor and vote McCain. McCain openly declares truth doesn't matter.

Both of them would do exactly what Russians are doing. Defend their nationals.

Russia lost about 1500 civilians so far. Half the people US lost in the twin towers. Both of them a hypocritical, McCain though acts like the son of Satan. Blaming it on the Russians provided he knows who started it.

    PROBLEM, REACTION, SOLUTION

create war, people panic and get killed, then come in with a 'diplomatic' solution.

Its so freakin obvious I can't stand it anymore.
