I wanted to make a website with the .US extension because it fits the domain im willing to register. Then i read here at : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.us that i have to be a USA resident to be able to register .us domains Any ideas what i can do beause i really want the US extension ? ps: as you all ready may have found out, i am not from USA i am from Norway.
same problem I had faced. I had found a great .us domain but that decided left it because of the same clause. The reason was, I don't wanted to waste all my effort if after few years, I get some problem with me being NON Us citizen. Honestly, there are tons of people who are Non US citizen and owns .US extension and the possibility are absolutely nil that anything will happen. You can order the domain through ur host if you are so inclined to have it. I will advice you to not to fill fake US address unlike many do
you can signup with some US mail forwarding company and then use that postal address to register the domain name. Ani
We are registering .us domains for anyone. In fact our own domains damnx.us and mydomainz.us were registered when we were in India. If you are interested PM me. Thanks and regards, Toniya
mate, you DONT need to be in the US to register a .us, my site hostedwith.us is NOT a usa site, nor am I (Im in the UK). However as it ostensibly provides free hosting aimed at the USA it qualifies. the domain is registered with my foreign address. if you are looking for a cheap registry for them, try www.createadotcom.com
To be a .us you do need to be a US citizen or resident entity or person or have bona fide US presence. The truth is that it isn't enforced and lots of sites slip through the crack, but wouldn't it suck if someone got upset with you and challenged your right to the domain? If you don't follow the rules, then you can get it pulled at any time. Just a thought.
this is all true - you can probably keep it forever, as long as someone doesn't snitch on you or deliberately do some background info, and find that you're not living in the US. However, it's a constant risk you'll be preoccupied with.
thats dumb because you can register a .co.uk without living in the UK but if you do need a .us, I can buy one for you. I get them for 10$ from my host
1. It is a misconception that only US citizen can register .us domain. 2. There are 3 options available and one of them allow whole world to register .us If anyone interested from any corner of the world can register .us from our website http://www.damnx.us/signup.php Right of domain cannot be challenged as this is allowed to anyone to register .us Only you have to select the option which gives rights to a company which is dealing business internationally, e.g. I am selling domains and webhosting to world hence I can register .us and we did so with damnx.us and mydomainz.us You are welcome if any doubt.
