Yeah, it pretty much is that simple. But it doesn't justify dropping the bomb...

No, it is not. :D simple solutions are a dangerous thing - and not only because they stand in the foundation of religions and religious beliefs. They are the easy solution.
Einstein once said that: "A physical theory should be as simple as possible, but not simpler than that". Don't fall for too easy, oversimplified, solutions.

To my view the dropping of the a-bombs were a severe crime against humanity. Nevertheless there was not even one angel during WWII, history's most terrible event, who did not commit crimes against humanity, so there is nothing to be ashamed of mia.
I would even define it as "a justified war-crime". Merely because if it was the other way around, namely the japs had the A-bomb and not the americans, they would not hesitate to drop it on new york.
No need to make history look too pretty, much more than it really is.

Truman was not just a great man because he was a Democrat, though that plays a big role. Truman should be considered the greatest humanitarian of the twentieth century, more so than Gandhi. Forget the millions of lives he saved by ending the war with Japan early. Forget the fact he held Imperialist Russia at bay with the threat of Nuclear destruction. Truman should be given credit for the rebirth of the Japanese nation as a peaceful and financial super power with a better quality of life for all of it's citizens. That is the type of revolution Lenin dreamed of but was never able to properly realize.

Of course, when US kills innocent civilians it's ok. We already know that.
Since when killing innocent civilians during wars isn't war crime?
    Since US doing it...

No, we aren't. I don't support killing innocent civilians (including woman and children) at all. You do. Like every single terrorist out there.

No I do not... You fail to see the point here. What I support is the decision to save innocent lives, which is what was done. That you cannot understand that bewilders me.

No. It really is that simple.

I was in Hiroshima last month. I saw the memorial as well as the general sentiment toward the bombings. Unlike you, the Japanese don't blame the Americans for everything, they blame their own government.

You also might be neglecting to recall that the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and killed thousands of Americans first.

Without Hiroshima and Nagasaki the war would have continued on indefinitely. Yes, the bombings were horrific and people died. If not in Japan, they would have died elsewhere. More damage would have been done, more people would have been tortured, more women would have been raped, etc.

Get off your high horse. You're on an American owned forum. If you hate Americans so much, stop interacting with them.

m42, well put. That is probably one of the best posts in this thread. New is so blinded by his hate and jealousy of Americans that he will jump on any anti-american bandwagon out there. It's really pathetic to watch someone like that, but, I just can't help laughing.

People forget the US were staying out of the war until the Germans sunk that passenger ship and the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, you know, awakened a sleeping giant.
