US-Based Merchants --- What CC Processing Do You Use?

I see A LOT of folks from India here that have A LOT of trouble with payment processing so I'm trying to avoid it all ENTIRELY.

Folks here in the United States of America -- What payment processors do you prefer? Why do you use them?

I guess the best question I can ask here --- What about a payment processing company makes a US merchant inclined to want to use them?

Authorize.net is just an electronic payment gateway (like Quantum, Payflow, 2000charge.com, etc). You still need a merchant account.

First Data is one of the larger ones, along with Chase / Paymentech. However, with the larger ones, you sometimes lose out on the customer service and you might have a contract.

Look around at a few of them - depending on your volume, you might be able to get a lower discount rate or a few basis points over interchange if volume is really high. The gateway should not charge you any transaction fee - there might be a monthly fee though. For example, some agents / partners of ISOs can offer you Authorize.net 250 free transactions and then charge you maybe a dime for each transaction after that. This is on top of what the merchant account provider will charge you.
