It makes more sense to me to build anti-missles than to target your neighbors with thousands of nuclear warheads.

    The anti-missles are working.

"Japan has for the first time shot down a ballistic missile in flight, testing a defence system aimed at warding off any missile threat from its neighbours."

Yes, but the problem is, these Anti missile are very similar in shape and trajectory with IBM. Russia has an automated missile warning system that identifies incoming missiles and issues red alert. Now what if the Automated system mistakes anti missile as IBM due to its shape and trajectory? A missile flying at sub sonic speed doesn't give enough time to clearly identify it. It may trigger Russia to launch counter offensive.

Does anyone remember Iranian flight 655? USS Vincennes shot it down because they mistaken it as F-14, killing all 290 passengers and crew aboard including 66 children.

The anti-missile can trigger such situation again.

    Keyword here: Mistaken Identity.

The Russians better get there act there act together and stop relying on an automated missile warning system. Thaat kind of stuff is obsolete in the 21st century. Anybody can fire a cruise missle. The days are over that only the Soviet Union and US has missles.

Airborne Missile Warning System is not obsolete mate. Less effective, but certainly not outdated.

Ofcourse not all countries can go on foreign territory to install their defense systems. Hope you got the point.

I don't really care if Russia puts an anti-missle base in Cuba because that's not a threat to blow me up.

I imagine how media would have reacted and Bush himself, much more opposite to what you are saying.

The missle or antimissle flies very fast, how would you ever know if thats an antimissle or a missle? :) Theres no time to sit there and think is this heading us or just going to blow another missle somewhere...Its like oh yesss, Im alive, that was an antimissle, or heck that wasnt an antimissle, and one city is wiped off the map(if that wasnt your city :)).

You have to use logic. If someone fires one missle at New York luanching a nuclear strike will in no way save New York. Don't you know that both the US and Russia have nuclear subs and Russia has moible missles. They can always retaliate days later.

Launching a strike is not protection. The only protection is anti-missles.

yeah, they`re defensive but that`s not why Russia is worried.

the problem is if the U.S ever attacks Russia then, russia wont be able to retaliate due to those defence mechanisms.... so, in effect this becomes defensive as well as an offensive tactic !!!:D

also, do you remember the Cuban missile crisis when Russia tried to install missile facilities at Cuba, which was vociferously opposed by the U.S.

well, of late the U.S has been trying to encroach more & more upon not only Russia`s backyard but of many others like, the old Soviet nations !!!!

The Russians don't have the technology to build their own anti-missles and are trying to use scare tactics to stop the US and Japan from building anti-missles.

Why doesn't Russia join nato and get with the program?

huh? you really think Russia wont be able to protect itself from missiles?

Ever heard of the new S-400 system deployed? Maybe youve heard about S-300 which we are selling, but thats old, S-400 is much better and not for sale. Here you go:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-400_Triumf

Now lets go down for the offensive stuff weve got there :) Read about Topol-M missile, theres no protection from that.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topol-M

I love reading and watching videos about new weapon made, there's lots of videos of Topol-M on youtube as well.

Exactly, they just think join NATO and it will be a peace of cake. By joining NATO you are signing to MANY stinky agreements. Like sending ** troops to Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Afganistan, and whatever else US feels as a "rogue" state:rolleyes:

No thanks, we had enough of wars.

And Russian technology is not bad at all, in some cases more advanced than NATO's. To sum it up: there are more minuses than pluses if we ever join NATO, so who needs it, the weaker states need NATO, like Ukraine, Georgia, etc, who are asking you on their knees to take them on board.
