Hi DPers, well after 40 hours, i have put all submissions on my site and i'm not happy with the look of any submissions presented so far.

I know many of you guys & girls are busy with a $500 prize on offer elsewhere:

I just have a question.
Cant copyright come into play if you add everyday characters?
Like things like a dart board or arcade machine are okay but characters like mario or sonic or bugs bunny, etc.
Just checking.

 

@technoguy - that didn't work for me, sorry. I like your last entry better but it didn't suit the site, I think the background colour needs lightening up? Not sure on that, but thanks a lot for trying again.

@Benjamin_Nathan - still looking to plain to be 'fun' but again, thanks for your efforts.

@JM Designs - now we're talkin' - banner looks good on the site. I can see where you went with the logo (below) but it's too wide for general purpose use. Possibly place the games arcade under the family friendly to make it squarer?

@ALL - The logo should be able to fit into a 150px wide column as that is the width of columns on most of the sites where i'll be placing it.

Yes, for sure! The big difference that i'm aware of is who cares more I guess. I have heard, & read, that Walt Disney do go out of their way to sue people using their characters but other companies don't push it so much. I guess it's how much money they have & how keen they are to sue us little guys. I think having their characters all over the place actually helps them sell more games but I am not a trial judge.

As well, in my favour, my site is family friendly and does not contain malware etc. so i'm not detracting from the product or bringing them down. Less reason to sue as far as I believe?

Having said that, yes, they own the rights to all their characters & yes they are within their rights to sue. Can't get blood from a stone though eh?

Just like the clever bugger who owns the rights to Happy Birthday To You, he could sue us all for singing it but that doesn't stop us singing it does it? But if Hallmark were to use it on their cards, you watch him attack them vigourously! - People making money from their products are the one's they target. I make nothing from that site, and don't intend to, so I believe they'll leave me alone.

@BrettBo - Aah, one of my favourite old-time games! But, i'm thinking one game up top will not be enough to make me want to stay & play. I can't read that very bottom text. If you're willing to sign up to Paypal to claim your prize-money (if you win), then you can keep on submiting if you like. There won't be a problem with me paying the winner, and i'm happy to hang on to the prize-money till you do. If you're in Australia, I can also do bank transfer nps. If not, Paypal only. Anyway, thanks for giving it a go.

@hafa - I love the background & the animals are absolutely great! But, it doesn't look quite right on top of the games site. However, that is almost perfect for another site I run & I will PM you regarding using it there. Very professional indeed! Thanks for entering.

@JM Designs - that A is screaming to be turned into an arcade machine. Not bad though not sure it's quite right. Thanks for re-submitting.

I added a stroke to it, to make the text a little bit bolder. And I tried to mess around with that 'a' a little bit, but not sure how well it turned out. I'll see if I can come up with anything better.

 

@JM Designs - yes, my suggestion hasn't helped sorry. I imagined the top hole in the A was the arcade screen & the bar may have had a paddle/joystick but looking at the sample, would be too hard to tell what it was.
