urls with dash (-)

hi,

Is there any advantage or restriction with urls with dash sign (-)
for ex:
adulttube Vs adult-tube
(adulttube.info) Vs (adult-tube.info)

even when you type the whole URL as adult-tube.info in goolgle, it is not displaying in the search results.

any idea!
Is it worth to go for a url with dash sign!

 

Having dash in your url between keywords is seo friendly. Keywords in the url separated by dashes, each keyword is counted as separate word and it really benefits.

 

register your url to google webmasters then it will show when you type

 

It's usually doesn't profitable if u make it long and it will make it hard to the visitors

 

In my experience it has hurt my web traffic. It's not as easy to type in or search for I find. I used to own a domain name with a dash and have found over the last three years that removing the dash has done much better. Certainly one less character to type is always easier. You want the short url possible.

First check whether a url without dash is available. If not go ahead and book url with dash. You can use upto 4 hyphens in the url. For search engines it is url or not url, it doesn't matter.

 

its it good to have your home page url simple, without any space.

 

In SE perspective - does not a issue if your site have a good content then do not worry about that.

In User perspective Its very hard to mind it.

 

Do you mean 4 total hyphens(dashes) or do you mean no more than 4 in a row? example: "----"

 

If you can do away wth dashes, do so.

If you are looking primarily for search engine traffic, I don't think it hurts.

If you are looking for type-in traffic, I think you'll lose a lot users. People just are not used to typing a dash as part of a domain name.

 

I agree... for SEO purpose adult-tube.info will be better than adulttube.info

I suggest dashes is always used in link of url for website.

it is also used for dividing the keywords name [i.e. - website-development , graphic-design-company]

 

Having hyphens ('-') in domain names is not really that helpful. Having hyphens in folder names and filenames is recommended. They act as word separators, and assist Google and others in locating keywords in your URL.

why would you want to use dash in your URL? I just don't get it?

 

having a dash has helped me so far. I have a pretty long URL travelindia-guide.com, but it has done fairly well in the past few months.
