URL's and mod rewrite

Hi. I am currently fixing my whole site up, using mod rewrite to make all my url's static.

Originally, my plan was use a directory-like style (domain.com/xxxx/xxxx/xxx), but for certain reasons, i can no longer do that.

My question now is, how should i style the url's to maximize their value in terms of seo? I see alot in the form of domain.com/xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx.htm. I personally dont like hyphens, but if it is my best option, i will use it. I was also looking into using commas (domain.com/xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx). Does it even matter?

    Thanks in advance,
    Dan.

is this for dynamic pages? My first choice would prob. be the directory-like way .. with page urls like xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx.htm ..

(I doubt you can use commas in an URL .. and if you could DONT)

commas don't matter, but they're not as neat looking as dashes
