We have an ad in a magazine that has a typo in the URL. It has a backslash in the URL instead of a forward one. (http://www.site.com\folder) Is there a way to handle this with an ErrorDocument or a redirect?
I think you can do it in .htaccess? and place a ? in front of the \ ... i think that tells it that it's not part of the htaccess code. I'm not sure though
I don't think there is a way to do it, because if you go to http://www.digitalpoint.com\blah (for example), an HTTP request is never actually made to the server. Instead, it never gets past resolving the domain's IP address. So unfortunately I don't think so...
That's pretty much what I figured, Shawn- thanks. Oh well, $7K + the time I spent building the pages down the drain!
Did the magazine f*** up your ad or did you guys supply incorrect copy? I had something similiar happen about 2 years ago and the publication gave me 3 free full page ads (we had purchsed one) to make up for it. They left a letter off our domain name even though we provided it correctly and the proof we approved was also correct.
Unfortunately we* F'd it up. And what really sucks is- this was our first attempt at marketing to a new business type (as a test). So even if they go to our home page it's not going to do them any good (nothing is related to their business). And I can't link up the ad from the home page because it's a "special" we were offering to this segment of people only. What a mess! *not me.
There is something seriously wrong with you Crazy_Rob I would've punched a hole in the wall and ripped off matthew fox's head by now.
Well, since it`s in print, people have to type it in anyways. You`ll likely still get the traffic you want with little loss - I`d imagine that most people are just going to look at the letters and type them in and naturally use the correct slash when they get to it, just out of habit. They`ll just read along and come to the slash and use the correct one regardless of it being wrong.. Hopefully!
Oh! Sorry to know that. Place a request with the magazine publisher and explain your position and he may give you some free ad space.
