When I get backlinks to my blog from sites with high PR, should I be linking to the index page of the blog or the exact page of the post? Doesn't linking back to the blog's index page rank the site higher in Google vs linking to posts directly?
if you are doing alot of backlinking, then i suggest both, with piriority to index page, because having all your pages ranked higher inproves creditability, and inward linking will mean more.
Okay, lemme ask you this... Is it worth getting 2 backlinks from every site, one to the index page and one to the original post if I'm referring to a post? Or does Google discount the other link coming from the same site? I ask because my site has a main post that's always the featured post that people come to see. So since it's on the home page all the time, I'm confused as to whether to link to the site or the main post which is on the home page anyway.
It wont discount it, but I dont know what piriority it will take, I recommend, if you are referring to a post, just link to the post itself
It is very important to deep link to your post pages, tag pages and even categories if you want to really improve your sites ranking with google. I have started to see more and more tag pages turn up in searches so it is worth promoting them too. Having all your links pointing to your index page and none to your interior pages is not a good thing.
You should be linking to: 1. The page that is most relevant to the incoming link with appropriate anchor text 2. The page that has the most potential to convert your traffic into the action you want them to take A nice mix of the above will help you rank and earn more.
Google likes to see a variety of links because it is more natural- so both deeplinks and index links are good.
You should prioritize your homepage. Once it gain high PR, the rest of your blog will be recognized by google.
