URL Structures

Hey everyone, I need some different opinions or some facts.
Currently for a site I'm working on the URL structure was automatically set to by WordPress:

    x.com/category/postname
Which I understand isn't the best SEO in URLs.
By /category/ I don't mean the actual category of the topic, I mean the word category.

Anyway, I'm removing it, but lets say the site was currently:

    debtconsolidationking.com/category/postname

For the site, what would be a more beneficial change?

    debtconsolidationking.com/postname
    or
    debtconsolidationking.com/debt-consolidation/postname

Does doubling up on the keyword give any sort of SEO/SERP benefit?

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

I don't see any urls with double keywords in the url listing in Google's results on the first page.

If you've got debtconsolidationking.com and the page is about debt consolidation I wouldn't repeat it in the first folder nor in the postname because you might get moved down the results for spaming.

You have it on the root debtconsolidationking.com, as long as you have it on the Title of the page and within the content that's pleanty. Any more and you're going to be ranking lower.

I agree with Marcosll. I don't think Google would reward SEO's with better rankings if they simply repeated the keywords in the URL. Perhaps if it's similar/related keywords around the niche google would reward better SERPs ranking based on LSI formula. I think your best bet would be the following format:

    debtconsolidationking.com/postname

    Cheers,
    Roflux.

No, doubling up won't give you an advantage. Though I will say that from an information architecture perspective you'll still want to use the category structure, just with a different choice of category title.

you need to define category as well as sub categories also. this will help a visitor to surf your website.
