    Hi Guys,

I was wondering what would be the best choice for url structure now days.

    1. subdomain.domain.com/catalog/actual_url/ID/
    2 .subdomain.domain.com/actual_url/ID/
    3. domain.com/catalog/actual_url/ID/

In case if you are translating content to different language.

    1. subdomain.domain.com/language_id/catalog/actual_url/ID/
    2. subdomain.domain.com/catalog/language_id/actual_url/ID/
    3. domain.com/language_id/catalog/actual_url/ID/
    4. domain.com/catalog/language_id/actual_url/ID/

    What do u think guys?

    domain.com/catalog/actual_url.html

if you're translating content to different language:

    language_id.domain.com/catalog/actual_url.html

    I always go with .html.

    Why does it matter?

domain.com/category/post-name or post-name.html. It does not matter if you do or do not use the .html extension. Time to look at more features of mod_rewrite :)

Search engines have become a lot better at indexing ID pages but you aren't doing yourself any favors for back link profile or click-thru rates. If you use the post name in the URL and people use the URL for the back link at least you get a few keywords in the link. Since the actual URL is part of the SERP landscape, you want to use a structure which explain the page contents for maximum clicks!

I go for no. 3 and I think it is ok even if you will not use the .html for your url. IMHO

I can see most of you guys so far went with domain.com/... . I would like to know why subdomain.domain.com/... is going to be not as good as domain.com/... from SEO stand point of view.

    thx

    Hi,

In my own experiences, the bottom line of a good url structure would be as short as possible and user-friendly. Of course, including keywords in your url would help ranking in some extent. Thus, "domain.com/catalog/actual_url/ID/" would be my choice.

    all the best,

Because if it's a folder Google think it's part of your site. Sudbomains are treated like separate domains. Especially if they're not linked from the homepage.

I agree with Zexy. domain.com/catalog/actual_url/ID/ and language_id.domain.com/catalog/actual_url/ID/ are best url structure.
