    Greetings all,

I'm a new poster, so please forgive me if that becomes immediately obvious! I believe this is the most appropriate section for my topic.

Regardless of the underlying technology (mod_rewrite, symbolic links, whatever IIS offers, etc.), what general strategies do you put in place for creating 'alias' URLs to common pages? I'm thinking - in particular - of those pages that a user would expect to exist on any site, especially when they are new to it.

    For example, I would expect:

    http://www.example.com/contact

    and

    http://www.example.com/contactus

to show me the 'contact us' page for a site, regardless of its actual URL, in all but exceptional circumstances. Does anyone have a good argument for why this would NOT be the case, and for why I should not create similar aliases for a whole bunch of URLs on my site?

In my opinion, both SEO and general usability highly benefit from this.

    Cheers,

    - bobby
